Rockin' Hero Burger

After all the fancy food fandango and elaborate meal prep of Christmas and New Year celebrations, I just want to sink my teeth into a burger. A Rockin' Hero Burger.

Rockin' Hero Burger
slightly adapted from here
Makes 8

For the Lamb Patties:
1kg freshly ground lamb
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon very finely chopped fresh rosemary
Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

For the Tzatziki Sauce:
2 Continental cucumbers, peeled and deseeded and roughly chopped
1 1/2 cups Greek yoghurt
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon chopped fresh mint leaves
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt

To Serve:
8 soft poppy seed burger buns
250g cherry tomatoes, halved
100g feta, crumbled

Make the Lamb Patties:
Combine all the patty ingredients in a large bowl, season with salt and pepper to taste and mix thoroughly. Divide the mixture into 8 even portions, roll each portion into a ball, then flatten into a burger shape. Lay them on a baking sheet and refrigerate for an hour, or up to eight hours before grilling.

Make the Tzatziki Sauce:
Put the cucumbers into a food processor and blitz until finely chopped. Strain through a cheesecloth to remove the liquid. Combine the strained cucumbers with the rest of the Tzatziki ingredients and mix thoroughly. Set aside.

Grill the Patties:
Heat a grill pan to high and grill the patties for about 2 - 3 minutes a side or until done to your liking. I like mine still a little pink in the centre.

Assembly:
Cut the buns in half, lay a burger on the bottom, top with halved cherry tomatoes, a big dollop of Tzatziki Sauce and some crumbled feta. Place the tops on and eat.

  3. Love the combo of tasty, healthy patties and Tzatziki. I'm Gluten free but would eat this with a small side salad. Yum!

  5. Definitely agree, go the burger! Perfect with a beer in this ridiculously hot weather. The tzatziki sounds absolutely delicious... I could eat that by the spoonful ;)

  7. I just know I'll be a hero when these show up on Chris's dinner plate. I guess he deserves some extra love because he had to go back to work a week earlier than me ;)
